What I do
About my work
Poetry
I have published three poetry collections with Chatto & Windus. I won an Eric Gregory Award in 2007 and in 2015 was chosen as one of the Next Generation poets. I love to collaborate with other artists and recent projects have included working with a flamenco guitarist, a baroque orchestra, photographers, philosophers and football teams.
You can read more about my collaboration with fashion and sustainability expert and author Kate Fletcher here.

Fiction
My first novel ‘Black Car Burning’ was published in 2019 and was long listed for the Portico Prize. I have also published short stories. I recently appeared on BBC Woman’s Hour discussing my story ‘Weaning’, which deals with experiences of post natal depression and breastfeeding.
Non fiction
I write creative non fiction exploring landscape, desire, the body and many other topics. My particular interest is in women and mountaineering. I have written essays for Radio 3 and my work has appeared in The Independent, The Guardian and many other journals. My first full length non-fiction book A Line Above The Sky was published in 2022 to critical acclaim. I’ve also edited a trail running guide for Vertebrate Press and a book Never Leave The Dog Behind (shortlisted for the 2021 Boardman Tasker Prize).
Workshops, mentoring and projects
I have worked for The Open University, The Writing Squad, Oxford University, The University of Leeds, Writing East Midlands, Derbyshire County Council, The University of Cambridge, The Poetry School, The British Council and many other organisations, teaching creative writing online and face to face in individual and group settings. If you are interested in mentoring or feedback on a manuscript, please get in touch. My availability is limited at some times of year but I’ll always get back to you and let you know.
